Day 15 – San Miguel de Meruelo to Santander

We opted for an earlier start as breakfast was at 9am and it promised to be a warm day. We stopped for a quick coffee and Pinxos on the way out of town.

All the walking today was through Cantabrian hills on country roads or alongside busy highways. We walked alongside babbling brooks and over ancient stone bridges.

Where possible we opted for the shortest most direct route. Various Camino apps have variations on the route. I haven’t found one to be 100% accurate yet.

Signs are everywhere

There were only a few towns today but we stopped where we could for coffee or a cold drink and rest the feet.

Lunch was the full Spanish Menu del dia, 3 courses, bottle of wine, bottle of water and bread at a seaside town called Somo. It was an excellent lunch.

From there we caught a ferry across the bay to Santander, our stop for the night.

Euro 3.7 for a 20 minute ferry ride. 275km down, only 560 to go.

I took a photo of the price of petrol here, Australian is very cheap in comparison, perhaps this is an indication of where our prices are headed. Unleaded equates to A$2.65/litre and diesel is A$2.49/litre.
