Day 14 – Santoña to San Miguel de Meruelo

Today was a sunny day, the wet weather has moved on for now.  We did not have a long walk today and it was mostly flat and through country roads so traffic, apart from the odd massive tractor, was light.

The long road

The Camino guide warned of steep, dangerous paths along the coast so we took an alternative path that walked along side roads through the countryside.

Our walk took us along side a prison, that makes Pentridge look like the size of a postage stamp.

I noticed a few places for sales, some of them with substantial amounts of land. You see this in country areas all the time, as the young population declines as they move to the cities.

Another nice house by the sea

We saw a few pilgrims this morning as they passed us but less as we moved away from the sea and inland.

On the app our destination of San Miguel de Meruelo looked like it had nothing, we were surprised that this small town has everything we need. We were even able to have a proper Spanish 3 course lunch about 2pm.

Once again it is laundry time, so I am doing our Laundry. The English pilgrim we met yesterday (Steve) was also doing his laundry. The Camino is no holiday from chores.
