Today was more up than down, we climbed 500+metres in elevation over the first 3-4 hours. I think we got to about 1250metres at the highest point. All up we were walking for 6 hours. We started about an hour after sunrise when it was still misty. The mist took about 3 hours to lift and when the sun came through it had quite a sting.

We stayed in this Refuge back in 2014 and they had the same dinner ritual of standing up and introducing yourself and stating why you walk the Camino. Why indeed? I didn’t know then and I don’t know now. But I am addicted.
However it is an opportunity for reflection of all the things that have happened over the past year. My Father passed this year and I thought I would take his memory with me. He loved to travel but could never come to terms with me and the Camino. So I thought I would show him.
It’s hard to put into words the stunning scenery in the Pyrenees. A few photos might help.

Sunrise on a cool misty morning

Yes we have goats

And horses, free range of course. No fences!

We started to climb above cloud level, the air was clear and the sky’s so very blue.

Above the tree line
As we progressed during the day we went from walking uphill to up to a full downward progression into Roncesvalles.

Into the forest.

We finished the day in the usual fashion , a glass or two if vino sitting in the shade people watching.
