Day 17- Boo de Pielagos to Santillana del Mar

Our Albergue was noisy early on in the night and eventually quieted down. Again breakfast was at 8am, a little late for pilgrims but we knew we had to catch a 2 minute train ride to get across the river or walk an extra 17km to the nearest bridge.

However I worked that we could stay on the same train to Barreda and save an extra 12km off our day, saving feet for tomorrow’s walk.

We had a pleasant walk through rolling hills into the historic town of Santina del Mar.

We stopped for lunch in a local restaurant and had the full Spanish menu del Dia again, very filling and great food. We never want dinner after a big lunch. So we be usually have Pinxtos and wine for dinner about 8pm. We are getting into the Spanish habits.

This town is full of historic buildings and palaces and we are staying in one of the palaces converted into a hotel (Paradore). MasterChef Spain was filmed here. The rooms are huge and the hotel is full of antique and period furniture.
