Drizzle on and off all day, just enough to be annoying but not enough to call rain. We walked out of Bilbao through residential areas, into industrial areas alongside the river. Not a pretty day.

Not a hard day either, most of the walk was flat.
We opted for a route that followed the river instead of up into the hills. It’s not often that there is a choice. But this time we had a choice of three routes, all of which joined together at Portugalete.
As we were going to be too early to check into our hotel we stopped along the way for lunch. The food in the Basque Country is excellent, I had beef checks in red wine sauce so tender that you could cut them with a butter knife made of butter.
After checking into our hotel, we had a walk along the promenade. There is a sky ferry that ferries people and cars across the river. The Puente Colgante, It is suspended by cables above the water. It’s a UNESCO heritage site.

We wandered back up the hill to the cathedral but being Sunday its only open for mass.

So it’s the middle of the afternoon and we are sitting at a cafe beside the river having a drink watching the world go by.
Tomorrow is another day.
