Day 3 – San Sebastián to Zarautz

Started earlier today on minimal fuel, being Sunday and everything is closed early in the morning. We had a longer day ahead of us and the obligatory hills. Up out of town and down into town. The Camino wound its way along La Concha bay, and then up into the hills through some exclusive suburbs.

The going got a little tough on some very rocky tracks. My feet have taken a beating today and my thighs are burning.

We started seeing lots of pilgrims today and met some of them. Patrick and Marta from Texas, a lady from Oslo, who we think wanted to borrow a phone to call home? Plenty we said hello to and saw on multiple occasions.

We stopped at a small cafe run by the same religious community as yesterday (twelve tribes). They were surprised we had heard of them.

We stopped for lunch in Orio, and I think our order got a little lost in translation, we ordered a tortilla bocadillo and a jamon bocadillo and got a tortilla bocadillo and a jamon omelet bocadillo. It didn’t matter both were delicious.

After lunch we walked up a valley through vineyards and over the top of the hill which brought us back to the coast and down into Zarautz.

Our accommodation is on the town square and incorporates a bar and restaurant. So we did the usual then sat outside for a drink and people watched and then for something different we went for a walk to the beach.
