Day 26 – A walk in the forest

After last nights rain we hoped for the best and planned for the worst, but the sky cleared and we had a bright sunny day. A lot of todays walk was through forests on well defined paths. Still a lot of pilgrims heading towards Santiago de Compostela. One couple, from Chicago, we spoke to were walking the 100km from Tui, as are many others.

We left town early while it was still cool, many others had the same idea. Todays walk was uneventful, it was just putting one foot in front of the other for 24km. We had a couple of small hills, but nothing too strenuous. There was a long section through a forest on well maintained paths.

It is noticeable that many venues are stilled closed, some of the signage advises this is due to lack of staff. The few that are open are very busy. There a number of pop up cafe stops along the path, these are usually a tent, a few tables and chairs. Payment is sometimes by donation, sometimes a fixed price. However none of these offer toilet facilities.

Our accommodation tonight is a little off the Camino and out of town, due to the difficulty in getting accommodation. But its comfortable and has a pool.
