Day 21 – Away from the coast

Today was supposed to be a shorter day and we had a relaxed start from our hotel. Our hotel was on the Camino path, so we just went out the back after breakfast and started up the hill. There were a varied selection of pilgrims on the path today, a tour group walking some of the camino stayed at our hotel last night. We had breakfast at the hotel, but stopped briefly at a camping ground for another heart starter (black coffee), we had trouble getting going today following yesterdays long day.

We appeared to be heading towards a lighthouse, but veered right and walked through a pass between two mountains, down towards the ocean.

There were a number of short steep hills, they don’t look much on the map but after about the 3rd or 4th in a row your legs begin to feel the burn. That combined with the humidity began to tax our bodies. There was not a lot of rest stops today.

We did visit a couple of churches and spent a bit of time resting inside.

Again evidence of recent bushfires. I had been keeping an eye on them in Portugal on an app, but in Spain information on current fires is not stored in one place. This was the tail end of a whole hillside and valley that was burnt out.

We saw some interesting buildings and bridges today, it all adds to the atmosphere.

Our accommodation for tonight is an old restored building turned into an Albergue. We have a room with ensuite, but they do not serve any meals so we have to go out searching. Also no aircon, and its quite hot and humid today
