Day 20 – Into Spain

Accommodation is proving difficult to get. I think its a combination of some businesses are closed either temporarily or permanently as well as an increased number of pilgrims on the path. We are having to book 3-4 nights in advance and sometimes with a 30+km walk between them. Today was 33km.

Last nights party goers where still out and about as we left at first light.

We started with a leisurely 10km hike along the foreshore, over a few hills before we got to Caminha where crossed into Spain. Once in Spain, just for something different we went straight up and over a hill into Aguarda, where we had some very nice Spanish Tortilla.

When arriving into Spain by air there is paperwork to show to prove your Covid status and/or your vaccination status (Which have ready). Crossing as we did, by boat, there is no paperwork. Nobody checks anything, we just hopped on the water taxi and we were in Spain within 10 minutes.

Now we are in Spain we have 165km to go to Santiago de Compostela.

Todays walk went through another Eucalypt forest, then mainly along the foreshore through small villages and along the rocky coastline.

After about 11 hours walking we arrived at our accommodation, only to find their restaurant is closed. Back in Spain we have to get used to the later dinner times, restaurants don’t open until 8:30pm. Many Spaniards eat even later than that. So we are venturing out to see what we can find in this village.
