Day 13 – still going uphill

The hotel put on a buffet breakfast this morning, so we fueled our bodies for the day ahead with scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants, bread, coffee etc. It meant that we started a little later. But thats ok, today was only going to be 18km, but mainly uphill as we climbed towards Porto and the Douro River.

The walk was largely through residential and light industrial suburbs, the closer we get to Porto the more urban our surrounds are.

Some of the paths we walked along were tranquil, like this through some corn fields. Others were more challenging.

There are some odd rules on the Camino, this one relates to crossing train tracks.

We had a break at a town along the way with a nice town square featuring a large fountain, São João da Madeira. We sat and watched the fountain for about half an hour, just relaxing in the sun.

There are all sorts of signs that show we are on the right path.
