Day 6 – An early start

We took days 4 & 5 as rest days, day 4 was already planned as a rest day in Tomar and we added an extra day to allow my foot to recover. I have one of those nasty blood blisters on the sole of my left foot again. So I burst it, threaded it and left it covered. Sanitary pads cut to size do a great job of absorbing any liquid.

After a great stay at modern, newly renovated Albergue we started they day at sunrise. Admittedly breakfast was nothing more than a bit of bread and jam and coffee, then nothing until we got to our destination town at lunch. We started in the cool misty morning, which made a great change from the heat.

Today was quite hilly, and over some rough, rocky bush tracks, often fully enclosed by the surrounding bush.

There was more evidence of the bushfires that gone through the area recently. We saw whole valleys burnt out.

But we also saw whole valleys missed by the fires.

One of the major problems is that Portugal have planted Eucalypt plantations everywhere. They are highly flammable.

Walking through the forest we came across an art installation, made from lace woven by Portuguese lace makers.

Todays walk was about 20km, and our accommodation was another 2km out of town. We still had to walk into town and back again for dinner. Whats another few km anyway.?
