We are well and truly on the road now, the long and winding road. Up hills and through forest, along roads, dirt tracks, fire breaks. We walked through areas burnt out during recent bush fires, small towns, bigger towns all up about 25km.

Portugal has been experiencing a major drought with temperatures into the mid 40’s as a result they have had and are still experiencing bushfires. One of the small towns we walked through today showed evidence of a near miss where the fires stopped at the edge of several properties and the church.

There are currently no active fires on the camino, but there has been. The temperatures seem to be coming down into the mid 30’s and this should help.

Some of the tracks had very uneven and loose surfaces, as a result we have a few injuries today. At least we have a short layover in Tomar to rest up.

We are resting in Tomar , the home of the Knights Templar, for a couple of nights. A small hotel, with plenty of services nearby.
