Day 39 – Caldas de Reis to Puentesampayo

Today started out very differently to how it finished. After a sleepless night, between the humidity, the fireworks at 1am and loud obnoxious drunks at 4am and then buckets of rain, I started the day in less than a great mood. My breakfast consisted of luke warm instant coffee, an orange and a banana.

Being Sunday and the day after the local fiesta everything was closed, I think they stopped serving alcohol around 6am.

The rain stopped around 8am so I set off. Everyone coming the other way was in full wet weather gear and drenched.

Leaving town on a grey day

The clouds just hung in there all morning

The clouds just hung around the tops of the mountains, it was so humid you could see clouds forming and coming up from the forest.

On days like this it’s not good putting on my poncho (portable sauna), as I am drier if I get wet from the rain.

A bit of color to brighten the day

Small village square

Fountain in the middle of town

Many villages have a fountain in the town square and/or at the church. The water is perfectly drinkable. I topped up my water bottles here.

I have been sweating buckets and drinking about 1 litre of water an hour.

At times I had the whole place to myself.

I stopped for lunch in Pontevedra, with a chorizo boccadillio I had made this morning, an orange and a bottle of water, in the local park under a tree with my shoes and socks off. The local constabulary slowed down once to take a look at me, I waved, they waved back.

The clouds went away, The sun came out, my mood lifted.

A challenging section of the path down off the mountain.

I had to concentrate coming down the mountain into Puentasampayo, some of the path was no more than a goats track. Both my knees are complaining loudly when I go up or down a hill.

My accommodation tonight is in Albergue with bunks and about 30 bunks on each of two floors. The showers/toilets are unisex. Fortunately with privacy doors on each shower and toilet. Each bunk has its own curtain.

Rules – Ssh

Nothing like a G&T to end the day

And I didn’t even get lost once.
