Today is a rest day, no getting up early, no battles with hordes of day trippers.
It’s a public holiday in Spain for Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is a feast day.
So all businesses are closed in Santiago de Compostela.
Anyway this explains the masses of people on the trail yesterday, it’s a long weekend.
Also a day that a number if airlines, airport and train unions have called a strike. Which explains the extraordinarily high prices for accommodation and transport at the moment.
We have spent the day sightseeing and dealing with some domestic issues like washing clothes. I was going to get my beard trimmed and haircut but everything is closed.

Jayne with her Compostela and Certificate of distance

Lighting candles in the Cathedral

The interior of the cathedral undergoing renovations

So what’s next. Jayne’s on her way home. I will continue, make a left turn and start walking south to towards Porto, Portugal, about 250km.
This is part of the Caminho Fatima from Santiago de Compostela. Effectively the Camino Portugués in reverse. The trail is marked with blue arrows all the way the Fatima. I won’t get that far, but plan to walk to Porto where I will get a flight to Madrid and then home.
Here are my Compostela and Certificate of distance.

The Compostela in my name is also made “Vicarie Pro Brian John Mckay” which means on behalf of or in place of in Latin. I have dedicated this Camino to my father.
