Day 20 – Carrion de los Condes to Moratinos

We had a bit of a later start today, desayuno was not served until 8am. Which may be a decision we regret as today is almost a 30km day and about 8hrs walk.

I’m sitting at this little pop up cafe in the middle of nowhere having a shoes off break/change of socks. What I didn’t get a picture of was the huge dog that tried to run off with one of my boots.

We have a break about every 5-10km depending on what is available.

This pop up was on a 12km stretch of track with nothing but fields of wheat, Sunflowers or Corn along side.

And now for something completely different-Corn

Hay stacks are being built now that the wheat has been harvested.

A typical rural sight, both here and in Australia

A rest stop along the way today.

Other pilgrims stopping for a beer and smoke. I am always astounded as the amount of beer some of these guys drink during the day, while walking 20-30km in 30c+ temperatures. I couldn’t do it. Agua con gas for me. (Carbonated Mineral Water).

Hobbit holes, maybe inspiration for JRR Tolkien’s The Shire where The Hobbits live. These are actually Bodegas where locals store things like wine, grain and other foods underground.

This part of Spain is currently experiencing a mouse plague. We see hundreds of them every day, little gray ones, ones with pointy noses, big black ones. The just sit there and watch us pass.
