Day 22 – Tui to Redondela

We spent the morning in Tui at the Cathedral, it dates back to roman times. Last night we attended the celebrations for St Elmo (no not from Sesame Street), yes the St Elmo of Elmo’s fire and the Saint sailors pray to. We had dinner and watched the procession and walked back down to our hotel then they had a fireworks display that lasted at least 20 minutes.

After coming back to our hotel, it was little late to start out and we would not have made our destination until after dark, so we hopped in a taxi to take us out past the industrial estate and walked from there. It was after 5pm when we arrived in Redondela.

Before leaving we had our first Cafe Cortado, a Spanish form of the Macchiato, but much nicer.

We saw many pilgrims walking today, and for once actually past a couple that had powered past us in the previously.

Many pilgrims start their pilgrimage from Tui, as this is the minimum distance from Santiago de Compostela required to be walked to earn a Compostela. So many are limping along within the 1st day.

We walked past a place called Fonte de Chan. “The Chan Fountain”. It consisted of a water font and a basketball court, go figure!
