Day 21, Rubiaes to Tui (Spain) ~ 20km

Well me made it to Espania, walked across the border from Portugal to Spain over the Rio Mino. No border controls, this is Europe after all. It feels good to be back in Spain.

We left around 8am and reached our destination around 3pm, losing 1hr as we crossed the border.

While relatively flat with a few hills, we also had to negotiate country paths that had been turned into streams by water runoff from farm irrigation.

Lost my hat today! Left it behind at a coffee stop, only to have it picked up by another pilgrim who carried with him until he caught up with us and he returned it. That’s three acts of kindness.

We had lunch at sandwich shop today and of the 15 patrons, 11 were smoking in the shop. Smoking in restaurants is legal here, unless it is designated non smoking.

Arrived at our hotel, a Parador. Yes another Luxury stop. G&T for two in the garden please.

We decided to take a walk up to the cathedral this afternoon, and found that it was a festival day, with military bands, a religious parade and various celebrations.

Each display contains a relic (body part) of a deceased saint.
