Day 19 – Balugues to Ponte de Lima ~ 20km

Ok, you saw our accommodation from last night, it was really hard to leave. After last nights dinner, which was probably the best meal on this Camino, the owners daughter sat with us for a while and chatted. A nice touch. We started the day with a full breakfast, Portuguese style and a leisurely start at around 10am.

Yes this was all for us. PS. the painting is worth a fortune.

Oops big mistake, it got hot quick and we lost our morning shade. But we only had a couple of hills to climb and in general we followed a valley beside a river all day.

A little heart starter for the morning was a small black dog, determined to take a piece out of our ankles. This lasted while we past his territory.

The Camino got little busier today as we saw a few pilgrims ahead and behind, and at various rest stops.

We had to deal with bicagrinos (pilgrims on bikes), without any manners. Barging through without warning, demanding space on the track. Much like cyclists on shared bike/pedestrian tracks back home! The emphasis on “shared”.

Tomorrow we tackle Alto de Portela, a 5+km climb up the highest mountain on this pilgrimage. It will take all day. We will start in Ponte de Lima and finish just before Rubiaes. It might get a little steep.
